Rare- 1665 Latin Catholic Book, Bound in decorative pig skin, with working latches! This is a one of a kind book… absolutely stunning! & a piece of history… a true heirloom! The whole book is in Latin and the title is The Exposition of Divine Natural and Ecclesiastical Moral Law, In Three Currency Parts. This contains information on sacraments, baptism, repentance, marriage, etc! The Binding is very unique, it is made of pig skin and has a decorative patterning all over… you can see it was wrapped over wooden boards, so this book is very durable and in great condition for its age! You can see visible worm holes and wear… I love the look of it! So unique and one of a kind. The latches are also in great, working condition… which is very hard to find! Usually they are broken or missing.
✨This book has a special provenance! The book plate states it was owned by Reverend Patrick F. Dealy, S. J. He was a Jesuit priest and the eleventh president of St. John’s College (now Fordham University) from 1882 to 1885. Dealy founded and served as spiritual director of the Xavier Union, later known as the Catholic Club of New York, an influential lay group of the era. In his day, Fr. Dealy was regarded as the most prominent Jesuit in New York. So you can see on the bookplate that Dealy gifted this book to the Library of the Xavier Union at the time! This is amazing to know a little bit of the history of this book and where it came from!
✨The research will be added in the sale of the book.
